Yesterday I watched the movie The Swan Princess for the first time in years! How can anyone NOT love that movie?
I decided after watching it that I will be cosplaying Odette in the very near future.
The dress itself is very simple -- it's sort of a fairy-tale take on a medieval dress.
I did find a child's pattern online. I'm considering buy
ing it and modifying the pattern so it will fit me, but the pattern isn't flattering to the shape of a grown girl's body and curves -- as it should be, like it is in the movie. So I will likely end up using a prom or wedding mermaid-style dress pattern and modifying it by adding the sleeves.Anyways, I've been agonizing over the fabric -- I am flat-out refusing to use satin because there's nothing that would indicate the dress is satin or shiny. I'm considering using Georgette fabric, and using silk satin on the green parts. (because that would look pretty!). The top of the dress would likely have to have boning in it. The fabric I want for the dress would be REALLY expensive. We'll see.
Along with making the dress I'd have to make the locket. Not sure how I'd go about making that but I'm sure I'll figure it out along the way. Also, she wears green flats (I totally caught that in the movie, go me.) so I'd have to get shoes and dye them. Not excited about that.
I'd also need a long wavy blonde wig (gotta love eBay) and probably purple contacts, too. Did anyone else notice that she had lilac-colored eyes in the movie?
Ooookay, onward to get ready for Comic Con! Now if I could only find my latex skirt... >.<
