ICE

I was in Boston Tuesday night for the first time in ages and I'm so glad it's finally getting cold out. I love the winter, and I love wearing lots of warm clothes and spending hours walking around Cambridge when it's really cold.

More still, I've always loved snow and ice and frost and the way everything seems so clean and crystalline in the wintertime.

I've decided to use this as inspiration to make a winter fairy costume.

First and foremost, this is the first time I will design something pretty much on my own -- I've found a few pictures I'm using as reference and for inspiration, but the outfit will be entirely unique and made by me, for me. I'm not really scared, as the design itself is pretty simple (mostly flowy chiffon and a bra-esque top) but the embellishments and whatnot will be what make the outfit entirely.

The concept of the outfit I have in mind is a sort of fairy who makes it snow (it sounds better in my head, haha). Here's a few of the pictures I'm using for inspiration.

I'm going to have to make the wings myself. I'm a lot more confident about metalworking because I've done it before. I've made a dress from chicken fence. It was insane, but got lost somewhere in my gay-rage before I could photograph it. :( Also, there's so many tutorials online that essentially make it fool-proof to screwing up.

I'm not starting this particular project until late November because that's when all the winter decorations start coming out in full force. Glass snowflakes, icicles... Perfect embellishments. I'm also going to be using Swavarski crystals liberally, and maybe some bits of something mirrored.

Finally... I will probably not be wearing this at a con. Why? It's not really a character for anything, and although the costume will be beautiful I don't like doing OC's at a con unless its for the rave. So... I'm hoping to use it for a shoot. Or just an outfit to wear around town. ^_^
